Overview

This amazing and so very diverse experience on this tour combines unforgettable sights – in Ol Pejeta Conservancy and from Mount Kenya overlooking it.

Ol Pejeta is a non-profit wildlife conservancy, which provides sanctuary for great apes, boasts the biggest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, and is home to the only two remaining northern white rhinos in the world! Ol Pejeta is also the only reserve in Africa conserving three rhino subspecies – the black, southern white, and the northern white rhinos. Visiting means also supporting great wildlife conservancy programmes and helps funding water, education, health, and infrastructure projects for the communities surrounding it.

Mount Kenya is Africa’s second highest mountain at 5,199m
(17,058 feet) and the highest of all Kenya Mountains. Mount Kenya is roughly circular, about 60km across at the 200mm contour, where the steep font hills rise out of the gentler slopes of the centered highlands. At the centre of the massif, the main peaks rise sharply from around 4,500m to the main summit of Batian 5,199m, Nelion 5,188m and point Lenana 4,985m. Other major summits on the mountain include Point Piggott 4,957m, Point Dutton 4,885 and Point John 4,883m. Of the three main peaks (Batian, Lenana and Nelion), only point Lenana can be reached by trekkers and the other two being only for technical climbers.

Tour Plan

Our driver will pick you up at your hotel in Nairobi. After a short photo-stop at Nanyuki town, where the equator divides the Earth in the northern and the southern hemisphere, you will soon enter the conservancy at its northern side. Meet the chimpanzees accompanied by abundant wildlife, perhaps an endangered Grevy’s zebra comes along your way. We’ll take a scenic and delicious stop at Serena Sweet waters lodge - observe the animals quenching their thirst at the water hole just in front of the lodge while enjoying a delicious lunch! Watch out for curious and brave resident monkeys, always checking your menu choice! After your body and soul have been caressed by food and mesmerizing views, we’ll head for a game drive in the eastern part of the Ol Pejeta conservation area. Alternatively, you can choose from other activities the conservancy offers. We know that animals seen here are unique and worth undivided attention, but don’t forget to raise your eyes - the backdrop of Mount Kenya and Aberdare mountains adds to the magic! After a hearty dinner at your lodge head for good night sleep to charge your batteries for tomorrow’s adventure.
You will wake up to birdsong and a dramatic view of the jagged, glacier- and snow-covered slopes of Mount Kenya, that heralds a challenging climb up the mountain. Definitely not something that is achievable in one day. Today’s hike, though, is intended for anyone who wants to stretch their legs and experience this volcanic mountain up close - from its grassy plains to the alpine peaks and breathtaking views - but does not necessarily want to summit. After breakfast, we’ll drive you to the sirimon Gate-Old Moses starting point. Hike through Likii Valley mid morning after a water break. This Trip gives you a chance to enjoy the Mountain on a day. The route focuses on attaining 3993m point via Likii North one of the least used paths to the mountain top. Your experienced guide will adjust the pace to the weakest hiker - expect it to be relaxing and leisurely. Your descent will be a little faster - way down is always easier. After returning to the starting point, we’ll drive you back to your hotel in Nairobi just on time for dinner. Difficulty level: Moderate to High Time: 7-8 hours Hike. Terrain:Rocky trail
