Mount Ololokwe Camping
Overview
If you have driven along the Great North road past Isiolo, then this flat-topped stunning mountain needs no introduction. Mount Ololokwe is located on Namunyak Conservancy in Samburu East. The mountain rises out of the Samburu plains and is around 2000 ASL at its highest point.

On this day drive North from Nairobi to stop over at Nanyuki for breakfast. Proceed to Isiolo town passing the expansive farms of Timau popularly known as the texas of Kenya. At Isiolo stop by at Emann restaurant for Lunch before stopping at the Mt. Ololokwe viewpoint for photos and sightseeing. Proceed to Sabache camp and set camp for the night.
Arise to an early morning climb following elephant trails to the top of the mountain. The hike gets you to the summit in time for sunrise at the peak. The views from the southern end of the mountain are to die for with the Mathews Range, Cat & Mouse, and surrounding plains clearly visible. The long black great north road snakes its way into the horizon from this viewpoint. After relaxing and chilling at the peak descend down for brunch before driving back to Nairobi to arrive early in the evening.
