Ol Donyo Le  Satima popularly known as Mt. Satima is the 3rd largest mountain in Kenya standing at approximately 4001m ASL is the immediate neighbor to a number of sharp volcanic cones called “the Dragon’s Teeth”. Dragon’s Teeth is a sporadic spread of jagged rocks that rise above the consistently wet moorlands in Northern Aberdares. Join us as we take on this scenic hike on the Moorland.

The Karuru Falls is tall and majestic. At 273 m, this is the tallest waterfall in Kenya. A Very beautiful sceneries of Aberdare include magnificent waterfalls with the main ones being Karuru waterfalls which fall in three steps, 1st step 117M, 2nd step 26M and 3rd 130M, making a total of 273M, Chania waterfalls and may other smaller ones.

Tour Plan

Meet for Departure at 0630hrs in the morning promptly. We drive north from Nairobi and a few kilometers after Engeneer Town, branch off towards Olkalau then to Shamata town(Start the hike from Shamata gate to twin rock) The trail is scenic as the tropical rain forest gives way to the moorland vegetation. Ascend 12km in the mountain to reach an altitude of 3450m at the Twin peaks point. On arrival we will set our tents at the camp near twin rock and spnd the night there. From here you can see the nearby Chebuswa peaks. The view and beautiful rock formations in Kenya. Trek distance:12km Trek hours 3-4 hours Altitude:3450m
On this day we will have early breakfast and there after start our hike to Mount Satima through Draggon's teeth with packed lunch. Trek: 17km Trek time:8-9 HRS Altitude :4001M
On this day we will have breakfast and there after start driving to Chania falls & Karuru falls
After early lunch we will embark on our journey back to Nairobi arrive in the evening

What To Carry

  1. Comfortable hiking boots with a good grip. Long pants/trousers & long-sleeved hiking t-shirt/light jacket recommended
  2. Spare Sports Trainers to complement boots, Sandals, or light shoes for traveling back
  3. Plenty of drinking water at least 3 litres
  4. Sunhat, Sunscreen, Sunglasses
  5. Cameras
  6. Walking stick
  7. Any personal medication / Personal first aid items
  8. Day Pack /Small Bag to carry your personal items
  9. Enough Snacks, fruits, sandwiches, energy bars to last the hike.
  10. Proper Rain Gear, in case it rains. i.e. Rain Coat/Poncho/Rain Trousers if available.
  11. Mornings can be cold so have a warm Jacket.
  12. An identification card or passport: Must
