After breakfast at your hotel in Moshi, drive to the northern side of Mount Kilimanjaro near the Kenyan border. After completing registration and park formalities at Rongai Gate, begin the trek.

The trail initially passes through local farmland before entering the forest. The ascent is gradual, allowing you to settle into the trekking rhythm.

As the forest becomes thinner, you begin to see the open plains of northern Tanzania and Kenya.

Continue to Simba Camp, where the mountain crew will have prepared your camp.

This is the dedicated acclimatization day of the 7-day Rongai itinerary.

After breakfast, take a gradual hike toward the Mawenzi Ridge or another suitable nearby higher point. The objective is to gain some additional altitude during the day and then return to Mawenzi Tarn to sleep lower.

This is an important opportunity to allow your body to adapt before moving toward Kibo and the summit.

Return to camp for lunch and spend the afternoon relaxing, hydrating and preparing for the next stage.

In the evening, your guide will brief you about the crossing of the Saddle and the upcoming summit attempt.

Kibo Hut: 4,703 m
Uhuru Peak: 5,895 m
Horombo Hut: 3,720 m

This is the summit day.

After an early breakfast, begin crossing the famous Saddle, the broad alpine desert between Mawenzi and Kibo.

The landscape is almost completely devoid of vegetation. The trail gradually climbs toward Kibo Hut, where you will have an early meal and prepare for the summit attempt.

Summit attempt

Around midnight, or according to the guide's recommended schedule, begin the climb toward the summit.

The trail becomes increasingly steep as you ascend through volcanic scree toward the crater rim.

You will pass through the upper Kibo section toward Gilman's Point, approximately 5,700 m.

From Gilman's Point, continue around the crater rim toward Stella Point and then onward to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 m.

After reaching Uhuru Peak, take photographs and enjoy the summit before beginning the descent.

Descend back toward Kibo Hut, collect your equipment and continue down toward Horombo Hut on the Marangu side.

This is a very long and demanding day, with some published itineraries estimating approximately 22 km and around 13 hours of trekking.

Meet your transfer vehicle and drive back to Moshi for a well-earned shower and rest.
