Ol Donyo Le Satima popularly known as Mt. Satima is the 3rd largest mountain in Kenya standing at approximately 4001m ASL is the immediate neighbor to a number of sharp volcanic cones called “the Dragon’s Teeth”. Dragon’s Teeth is a sporadic spread of jagged rocks that rise above the consistently wet moorlands in Northern Aberdares. Join us as we take on this scenic hike on the Moorland.
The Sirimon route comes from the west of Mount Kenya and passes through the dry side of the mountain. Giant trees and a rocky terrain awaits you here, before you descend onto the Chogoria path, where you can spot a totally different view with lush bamboo and highland forests.

Meet for Departure at 0530hrs in the morning promptly. We drive north from Nairobi and a few kilometers after Nyeri, branch off towards the mountains. The drive up the mountain is slow but scenic as the tropical rain forest gives way to the moorland vegetation. Ascend 6km in the mountain to reach an altitude of 3450m at the Twin peaks point. From here you can see the nearby Chebuswa peaks. The view and beautiful rock formations in Kenya. They include the Lost Pyramid, Weathering Heights, Devil’s Sword, Theater of Heaven, and finally the Dragons Teeth with stunning rock formations.
On arrival we will set our tents at the camp near twin rock and then start our hike to Draggon teeth and mount satima and there after descend back to the camp.

On this day we will have breakfast and there after start our hike to mount Satima peak to arrive at around 11 am. Descend to Draggons Teeth. The descent is gentle and it offers ample time to enjoy fascinating scenery which includes the moorlands before reaching the camp and drive nanyuki

What To Carry
- Comfortable hiking boots with a good grip. Long pants/trousers & long-sleeved hiking t-shirt/light jacket recommended
- Spare Sports Trainers to complement boots, Sandals, or light shoes for traveling back

Depart Nanyuki 1o:30am Road trip to Sirimon gate and have a picnic lunch before entry. The hike start from the Sirimon Park gate (2660m). From the gate, trek upthrough magnificent montane forest, bamboo and giant heather zone before reaching the high altitude moorland and our first hut (Old Moses camp3,300m) for evening tea, mountain entertainment dinner and overnight stay. This is a gentle trek that takes 3-4 hrs gaining an elevation of680m. From Old Moses camp you can see the summits of Batian and Nelion peaks
After a heavy breakfast, Hike to Shipton’s camp (4200m ), 17 kms (6 to 8 hrs hike) through Likii Valley mid morning After a water break,continue on the track crossing Ontulili River before turning right contouring through the Moorland and crossing Likii North River andMackinders Valley, a great day of scenery and magical photo shoots.There are killer & panoramic views of the peaks from the view point. A Nourishing lunch will be served by the Likii River and continue to Shiptons camp at 4200m Evening tea, snacks, dinner and overnight stay. This camp is a surreal setting below the towering peaks and glacier. Resident population is of Rock hyrax and sun birds
After acclimatizing we will descend to Shipton Camp for Lunch. Evening tea snacks & dinner will served.There after prepare for summit Day.
Kick off @ 2:00am the hike takes 3-4 hrs. The climb starts on froze scree and continues on a rocky track with some very minor scrambling. With good Moon you barely need a torch. Without Moon, then the pollution- free sky bangs on the ground giving you a good view of the stars like nowhere else on Earth. Reach point Lenana (4985m) followed by Hoisting of the Flag & photo session on sunrise After summit we follow the track through giant heather and forest down to Chogoria road head from where the path drops to cross a stream then follows the broad ridge to the west of the gorges valley to reach Mintos Hut, 4200m. Dinner and spend the night at Mintos Hut, B, L, D
