Mount Kenya Group Departures

Mount Kenya joining groups are a popular way to climb Mount Kenya, the second highest mountain in Africa. These climbing groups are made up of individuals who are interested in climbing the mountain, but do not have a large enough group to book a private climb or want to join other climbers to make new friends and share the experience.

Mount Kenya joining groups typically consist of 4-8 climbers, and sometimes up to 12 climbers. This ensures that the group is small enough to provide personalized attention and support, but large enough to share the experience with other climbers.

Group Joining offer a cost-effective, safe, and rewarding way to climb the mountain.

By joining a climbing group, climbers can share the experience with like-minded individuals, make new friends, and enjoy the camaraderie of a shared adventure.

The best time to Climb Mount Kenya

The best time to climb Mount Kenya is during the dry seasons, which are generally from January to March and June to October. These periods offer the most stable weather conditions with clear skies and less rainfall, making the trails safer and easier to navigate. While you can climb Mount Kenya year-round, the rainy seasons (April-May and November-December) can bring muddy trails, poor visibility, and unpredictable weather.

Here’s a more detailed breakdown:
  • January to March:

This is the first dry season and a great time for climbing, with clear skies and relatively warm temperatures.

  • June to October:

This is the second dry season and another excellent period for climbing, with stable weather and cool temperatures.

  • April to May & November to December:

These are the rainy seasons. Expect muddy trails, potential for heavy rainfall, and limited visibility.

  • Year-round:

Although climbing is possible year-round, it is not recommended during the rainy seasons due to the challenges mentioned above.

Important Considerations:
  • Weather is unpredictable:

Even during the dry seasons, you can experience all types of weather on Mount Kenya.

  • Acclimatization is crucial:

Take your time and allow your body to adjust to the altitude to minimize the risk of altitude sickness.

  • Choose the right route:

Some routes are more challenging than others, so choose one that suits your experience and fitness level.

  • Consider the Chogoria route:
If you’re looking for a scenic route, the Chogoria route is known for its beauty, especially during descent.
  • Be prepared for all conditions:
Pack for all types of weather, including warm layers, waterproof gear, and sturdy hiking boots.
