The Naro Moru–Sirimon traverse is a good option because you don’t have to retrace your steps. You ascend through Naro Moru, summit Point Lenana, then descend through the Sirimon side. Sirimon generally provides a more gradual approach through the northern side of the mountain.

Overnight: Met Station Camp
After an early breakfast, depart Nairobi and drive towards Naro Moru.
Continue to Naro Moru Gate, where you complete park registration and meet the mountain crew.
Begin trekking through the lower montane forest.
The trail gradually passes through bamboo and giant heather before reaching the higher moorland.
This is a relatively short first trekking day, allowing you to start adapting to the altitude without excessive exertion.
Continue to Met Station at approximately 3,050 m.
Arrive in the afternoon, settle into camp and enjoy a hot meal.
Your guide will monitor the group and ensure everyone is well hydrated.
Overnight: Met Station Camp

The Met Station is the standard first overnight point on the Naro Moru route.
Altitude: 3,050 m → approximately 4,200 m
Distance: Approximately 10–12 km
Walking time: 5–7 hours
Overnight: Mackinder's Camp
After breakfast, start the climb towards the high-altitude zone.
The trail becomes steeper as you ascend through the moorland.
One of the notable sections today is the Vertical Bog, which can be wet and muddy depending on weather conditions.
Continue through the upper moorland and into Teleki Valley.
The spectacular peaks of Batian, Nelion and Point Lenana become increasingly visible.
Continue to Mackinder's Camp at approximately 4,200 m.
Arrive in the afternoon, have lunch and settle into camp.
The rest of the afternoon is dedicated to rest and hydration.
Because tomorrow is your acclimatization day, there is no need to rush.

Altitude: Approximately 4,200 m
Acclimatization hike: 3–5 hours
Overnight: Mackinder's Camp
Today is dedicated entirely to acclimatization.
After breakfast, take a slow acclimatization hike higher into the alpine zone, depending on weather and trail conditions.
The guide may take the group towards Hut Tarn, Tyndall Glacier or another suitable higher point, before returning to Mackinder's Camp.
The objective is:
Climb higher during the day → return to Mackinder's → sleep at approximately 4,200 m.
Return to camp for lunch.
The afternoon is spent resting, hydrating and preparing for the summit.
Your guide will assess everyone's condition and discuss the summit-day strategy.
Have an early dinner and go to bed early.

Summit Day – Long Day
Wake-up: Approximately 2:00 AM
Summit: Point Lenana – 4,985 m
Walking: Approximately 15–18+ km, depending on exact trail and conditions
Walking time: Approximately 9–12 hours
Overnight: Old Moses Camp
This is the most demanding day of the trek.
Wake around 2:00 AM and have a light breakfast.
Begin the climb in darkness using headlamps.
The trail rises towards Point Lenana, with the final section involving rocky and scree terrain.
Walk slowly and steadily under the guidance of your mountain guide.
Point Lenana – 4,985 m
Aim to reach the summit around sunrise.
At the summit, take time to enjoy the sunrise and views of Batian and Nelion and the surrounding landscape.
After photographs and a short rest, begin the descent.
Summit → Mackinder's Camp
Descend back towards Shipton's Camp.
Have a proper breakfast and take a short rest.
Shipton's camp → Old Moses
After the break, continue the descent across the high-altitude moorland towards the Sirimon side.
The route eventually joins the Sirimon corridor and continues down towards Old Moses Camp, approximately 3,300 m.
This is a long day, but the advantage is that you do not spend the night at Shipton's Camp.
Arrive at Old Moses in the afternoon/evening, depending on the group's pace.
Have dinner and get a well-deserved rest.
Overnight: Old Moses Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Altitude: ~3,300 m → ~1,700 m
Distance: Approximately 9 km
Walking time: 3–4 hours
Overnight: Nairobi hotel
After breakfast, begin your final descent through the mountain forest towards Sirimon Gate.
This is a much easier day after the long summit day.
Once you reach Sirimon Gate, meet your vehicle and drive to Nairobi
Have lunch and check into your hotel.
The afternoon is completely free for recovery.
Enjoy a hot shower, comfortable bed and relaxed evening after completing Mount Kenya.
